Humans tell stories. It’s what makes us unique in the animal kingdom and over the years, I’ve heard many stories. Stories I’ve been inspired by, stories I’ve gained strength from, stories that caused me to reflect and stories that provided insight. Other stories have taught me a little something of worth while others just made me laugh when I needed a good one.

I intend to use this blog to record these stories. So here goes…

Story No 1 – A Beach Full of Sea Stars

The morning after a king tide a young girl walked down to a beach. As she approached she could see the sand was covered as far as the eye could see with washed up sea stars.

Without a second thought, she skipped to the first stranded sea star, picked it up and threw it back into the ocean. She then skipped to the next one and did the same, and the next and the next and the next…

In the headland car park high above, a businessman watched on. After about 10 minutes of observing the sea star rescuer, he could hold his tongue no longer and shouted down,

‘Hey! You do know even if you do this all day you will not make an iota of difference!’

The girl cupped the sea star she had in her hand, raised it high above her head and presented it towards the man like an offering then shouted back,

‘It makes a difference to this one!’

She turned, threw the sea star back into the ocean and skipped to the next one.

What will you do today to make a difference to ‘just one’?

It’s worth a thought.
